2015, Journal of Pediatric UrologyCitation Excerpt :The local anesthetic techniques that are used in combination with general anesthesia for postoperative analgesia after circumcision include DPNB, caudal block, pudental block, and topical lidocain-prilocain gel application. The DPNB is an effective technique that is frequently used in combination with the anatomic landmark technique [7,8]. Bellieni et al. [9] reviewed 14 studies and reported that the use of DPNB and acetaminophen derivatives or topical analgesic cream reduced pain dramatically, but those authors emphasized that no method completely eliminated pain [9].
Critical urologic skills and procedures in the emergency department
2013, Emergency Medicine Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :The sterile field is created by placing sterile drapes between the scrotum and shaft, above the shaft, and on both sides of the shaft. The following steps are involved in the technique and much has remained unchanged since the original description of the procedure by Kirya and colleagues27 in 1978 (Fig. 6). The dorsal penile nerves should be blocked as proximately to the base of the penis as possible.
Dorsal Penile Nerve Block Prior to Inflatable Penile Prosthesis Placement: A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial
2012, Journal of Sexual MedicineCitation Excerpt :Small branches of the perineal nerve supply the ventrum of the penis to the glans and are anesthetized during a penile ring block. The use of a DPNB for postoperative pain control has been extensively studied in neonatal circumcision since the first description by Kirya and Werthmann in 1978 [1]. In subsequent systematic reviews and meta‐analyses, DPNB has demonstrated comparable pain control to caudal and parenteral analgesia with a more favorable side effect profile [2].
